If you have a big vacation or holiday coming up in a few weeks time, you might want to tighten your belt. It could be that the trip has taken away a chunk of your savings, or that you want to save the majority of your money for when you’re there! Whatever the reason, this isn’t uncommon. However, the weeks leading up a vacation can actually throw up some big expenses. You’ll need to source the correct clothing, and find the correct sun protection. You also don’t want to have a totally miserable time before you go, without any treats at all.
So with this in mind, let’s look at a few ways you can save money in the month before a big vacation!
Base your treats around the holiday
Instead of spending money on meals out or cinema tickets in the lead up to your big vacation, stay at home. There, do activities based around your vacation. If you’re headed to Japan, stay at home and try making Sushi! If you’re going to New Zealand, watch a Lord of The Rings film and marvel at the scenery. All three movies were shot entirely in the country! Marvel at the mountains, we mean… not to Orks! Or just snuggle up on the sofa and read a local guide book. These things will get you even more excited for your vacation, and you’re not spending money on expensive activities either.
Buy clothing carefully
If you’d have had many months before your vacation, it would be wise to start picking up bits you need well in advance. Buying summer ideas in the winter are much cheaper, for example. However, if you only have a month to go, you’ll have to be even savvier. Search the internet for coupons and vouchers, like Pacsun coupons. This allows you to save money on things you actually want!
Buy multipack sun lotion
If you are going to a hot or warm country, you will need to protect your skin. It is often the case that multi-packs of sun lotion are cheaper that buying the same amount individual. Also, don’t think that price means quality. As long as it has a high enough factor and both UVA and UVB protection properties, it will do the same job. Don’t be tricked by clever branding or shiny packaging! It may be the same product inside the bottle!
Wait to book your excursion
In some cases, booking excursions and activities for your holiday can be more expensive if done from home. The agency or company may be acting as middlemen between you and the actual people who run the activity. This means that price will be higher, as the middle men have to take a cut for themselves. Instead, it could be really wise to wait until you arrive at your destination to book. Of course, you run the risk of the prices being the same, or what you want to do being fully-booked. But if you’re feeling brave, it could really pay off financially.
